Ron
Davis has served as MEBA's District and National President since
early 2002. He began his sea going career in the Navy which included
time
in Vietnam. In 1975, he was accepted into the Calhoon MEBA Engineering
School's cadet program which he successfully completed in 1978. He
sailed on MEBA-contracted vessels until 1991 when he was elected to
Union office.
One of the few MEBA Presidents to ascend to office after working himself
up through the ranks, Ron first served the Union as an MEBA Patrolman in
the Port of New Orleans. He was elected Gulf Coast Vice President/New
Orleans Branch Agent in 1996 and again in 1999 before beginning his
service as the Union's President three years later. He is also Chairman
of the Board of Trustees of the MEBA Pension, Training, Medical and
Benefits Plans as well as the Chairman of the American Maritime
Congress. He holds a Chief Engineer's License - Steam & Motor Unlimited.
Ron credits much of his success to the support of his wife Lois and
their two children, Phillip and Stefanie. |
